Distinguished by a powerful on-stage unity and a rare sensibility, Trio Sora was born of a burning passion for chamber music shared by close friends at the Paris Conservatoire. Influenced by their diversity of heritage – France, Latvia, Italy and Basque – they have vivaciously launched into full flight, not unlike the significance of the native American word Sora : a bird singing while spreading its wings.
Trio Sora won the Parkhouse Award in April 2017 and is a prizewinner of international competitions in France and abroad. They recently released their debut CD featuring works by Haydn, Beethoven and Mendelssohn. Having played in countries including Switzerland, England, Finland, Belgium and Latvia, they have been invited to perform at such venues as the Philharmonie de Paris and at festivals such as the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival in Finland, La Folle Journée de Nantes and the Roque d’Anthéron Piano Festival in France.
Always striving to deepen their musicianship, Trio Sora is benefiting from the guidance of the Artemis Quartet and Miguel da Silva at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel and Claire Desert at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. They have also been privileged to work with such artists as Menahem Pressler, Quatuor Ebène, Quatuor Danel, Mathieu Herzog and Gary Hoffman.
Since December 2016 the trio has been resident at the ProQuartet CEMC and is also a European Chamber Music Academy ensemble.
Trio Sora is grateful for support from Safran Music Foundation, Adami, Fondation Meyer and the City of Saint-Denis. Violinist Magdalena Geka plays a 1737 Camillus Camilli violin generously loaned by the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel.
