European Anniversaries: lunchtime organ recital

This recital is the third lunchtime annual concert to be given by John Collins, an eminent authority on the organ repertoires of European composers from ca 1500-1800. The audience is encouraged to enjoy their lunch whilst listening to the music, just as they would have done when the music was being composed.

The theme of this year's concert is 'Anniversaries'. The programme includes pieces written by composers whose anniversaries fall this year, or who were composing when Cervantes and Shakespeare died 400 years ago, in 1616. Compositions will include music by Handel, Gibbons and Wesley.

In 1616 St Nicolas Church was itself already 400 years old. In addition we acknowledge the arrival of William the Conqueror 950 years ago in Pevensey in 1066.

The acoustics of St Nicolas are constantly remarked upon by visiting musicians for their clarity. The audience can therefore be assured of a wonderful musical experience in a beautiful medieval early English church building.
