Breaking the Rules - the imagined testimony of Carlo Gesualdo (1566-1613), composer and murderer
Play by Clare Norburn; directed by Nicholas Renton
Described as ‘astounding’, The Marian Consort is a young, dynamic and internationally-renowned early music vocal ensemble, recognised for its fresh approach as well as its exquisite and innovative presentation of a broad range of repertoire. Recently the Consort featured as part of BBC Radio 3’s line-up for the Free Thinking: Festival of Ideas in Gateshead.
Marking the 450th anniversary of his birth, Breaking the Rules is their latest production. Part concert, part one-man play, it explores the extraordinary life and music of Carlo Gesualdo, perhaps best known today for his distinctive musical voice also for the gruesome murder of his first wife and her lover.
The Marian Consort is also committed to inspiring a love of singing in others. Join our workshop on Saturday 9 July and perform on stage with The Marian Consort in the second half of this concert as a member of the choir.
Please mention if you’d like to join the workshop at the time of booking. See details on Breaking the Rules Choral Workshop on 9th July.
Performance ends at approximately 9.30pm
