The 13th century church of Little Gaddesden will be the perfect vessel for this concert featuring the harpsichord. You will hear Bach sonatas for violin, cello, flute and harpsichord, respectively. Not so usual in the sound world of the harpsichord are works from the 20th century. Martinu's ‘Promenades’ combine his Czech and Moravian folk heritage with the prevailing neo-classical spirit of 1939. Ligeti’s ‘Continuum’ for solo harpsichord is a mesmeric roller coaster of 20th century virtuosity. Our finale brings the whole group together to present a new arrangement especially for this concert of Ravel's own tribute to the baroque era, his Tombeau de Couperin.
