In this compelling and wonderfully varied ‘Reflections’ programme, a cappella choir works are interspersed with pieces for piano and cello. Mirrors are reflected in Alan Charlton’s Mirror Suite, the Michael Jackson hit Man in the Mirror and Arvo Pärt’s Spiegel im Spiegel, and water is used as a reflective surface in pieces such as The Swan, The Blue Bird and Water Night. In Rheinberger’s little-known but exquisite Mass in E flat, the reflection is produced by two separate choirs, singing across to each other.
