The award-winning, East Midlands-based Helix Ensemble is visiting Repton on Saturday 14th May with a 'Symphonic Strings' concert directed from the violin by Clare Bhabra, a member of the Tedesca Quartet and Sinfonia Viva. The programme includes many familiar pieces and well-known tunes.

We start with a short symphony by Mendelssohn, followed by Grieg's Holberg Suite, a tribute to the musical forms of the 18th century. We are joined by pupils from Repton School for St Paul's Suite by Holst which is based on folk songs including Greensleeves.

Finzi's beautiful Romance has been described as 'a lovely evocation of the mood of the English Landscape'. The final piece is the Shostakovich Chamber Symphony, a dynamic arrangement for string orchestra of his Eighth Quartet.
