Stabat Mater | Paragon Singers

Paragon Singers performs three very different settings of the famous Stabat mater text. John Browne’s late 15th-century setting is a glorious example of late medieval polyphony, luxuriant and dramatic; Palestrina’ double-choir setting a beautiful, plangent lament; and Domenico Scarlatti’s ten-voiced setting a baroque masterpiece, a complex and varied interpretation of this powerful text. Also in the programme: Purcell’s Funeral Sentences and Arvo Pärt’s lovely lament of Babylonian exile.
