The worldly and the spiritual rub shoulders hectically in Carl Orff's monumental, quasi-monastic celebration of life in all its pleasures. We cannot avoid our fate, but we can enjoy ourselves along the way, and Carl Orff's music teems with energy, humour, tenderness and joy.
In total contrast comes the lush, serious, aching beauty of Lili Boulanger's settings of religious texts, two of the musical diamonds with which she adorned the world during her tragically short life.
