Schubert’s great final string quartet concludes the programme for the Dorics on their first Turner Sims visit. The evening opens with one of Haydn’s works dedicated to Johann Tost, the former leader of his second violins at the Esterházy court.

Erich Wolfgang Korngold, best known for his lushly romantic film scores, wrote a quantity of music for the concert hall and the stage, including three highly individual and melodically appealing string quartets between the years 1920 and 1945.
