Coming to the Royal Festival Hall this October half-term is Noisy Notes, the annual children’s concert from the Orion Orchestra. Children have requested the music, which ranges from the Grammy Award-winning music from Frozen to Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, accompanied by a bespoke animation.

For two hours before the concert, the Festival Hall’s foyer will be hosting representatives from several London music shops with instruments for children to try out. ‘Top Wind the flute specialists will be at Noisy Notes for the third year running. It’s very rewarding for the professional players to see children discovering how much fun the flute can be!’, says spokesperson Patrick Onn. There is also participation during the concert, as children conduct with flags to the Toreador from Bizet’s Carmen.

The concert will be presented and conducted by Sue Perkins. Comedian, author and nationally beloved co-host of The Great British Bake-Off, Perkins has been the Orion Orchestra’s guest conductor. She will be conducting the theme from The Simpsons for the first time since 2008, when it catapulted her towards victory in the BBC’s celebrity conducting competition Maestro. Perkins says of the orchestra, ‘I’ve worked with Orion since 2013 and it’s always one of the highlights of my calendar. It’s a real delight to conduct such a fun and innovative concert.’ Other special guests include Greek Eurovision finalist Sarbel, and singers and dancers from London’s West End – plus an appearance from Batman.
