We are delighted to launch a new Beethoven cycle featuring the Leonore Trio. Some of you will know the players as members of Ensemble 360, and in this trio line-up they are already emerging as a force on the national and international chamber music platform. As well as presenting concert series at King's Place in London, they are attracting outstanding reviews for their performances of Russian piano trios recorded for Hyperion records.

Appropriately, this concert features the earliest pieces Beethoven wrote for the instrumental combinations being featured in this new series. Benjamin Nabarro writes: “After Beethoven cycles from both the Elias String Quartet and Tim Horton, we are extremely excited to be continuing the theme with Beethoven’s complete works for piano trio, violin and piano, and cello and piano. These span his whole life, from the three trios he deemed his Op.1 set (the last of which Haydn suggested he shouldn’t publish, saying it was too daring!), to the cello sonatas Op.102 which mark the start of Beethoven’s ‘late period’, as he struggled with increasing deafness and ailing health. During our journey we will also encounter the Op.70 Ghost Trio that pushes the boundaries of classical style and form, and the Op.47 Kreutzer Sonata, a one-off, dazzling explosion of a piece."

“The Leonores play with truly glorious affection and security, and it is hard to imagine playing of a greater empathy.” Gramophone Magazine
