Thames Concerts is proud to introduce these short morning concerts, running alongside the main evening series. They showcase local up-and-coming talent.
Post-graduate students Nate Holder (sax) and Peter Falconer (piano) from Kingston University's Department of Music feature in this, the third of this series' three morning concerts.
Nate Holder (saxophone) started playing the piano at age six, and after expressing the desire to play another instrument, started on the clarinet at age ten. He continued playing the piano in his local church and formed a gospel group which wrote their own songs and performed all over the UK at various events and concerts. He earned his BA (Hons) degree in Music from Anglia Ruskin University in 2010, after specialising in saxophone, while playing the clarinet and bass clarinet in the ARU Orchestra.
He moved to Hamburg, Germany in 2011, and began to give private instrumental lessons as well as fulfilling his role as Musical Director and pianist for the Leviticus Gospel choir under choir director Latonius Earl. During his time in Hamburg, he played with many different bands and singers including Oceana, Dwight Robson, Ted Herold, Die Herren Simple and SaraJane. He was part of the 4Life Freedom Singers, who travelled to Philadelphia (2012) and Miami (2013) to perform at the 4Life international convention.
In 2012, he was approached to be the Musical Director for an original musical entitled One Day On A SoulTrain by the Hamburg based youth organisation Lukulule, and the show debuted in Fliegende Bauten in April 2013. After the shows success, he was commissioned to MD another Lukulule production called 12 Yards in 2014 which debuted at Kampnagel (Hamburg) in April 2015.
He has been the MD for The Latonius Gospel Workshops which have taken place in Germany, France, Luxembourg and Spain over the last few years, meeting many amazing people and sharing his knowledge across Europe. His first book is due to be released in mid-2016.
Admission is free (no ticket required), and the concert lasts for around 50 minutes. Full programme details may be viewed at thamesconcerts.com.
