Hebrides Ensemble, based in Scotland, is a collective of world-class musicians from the UK and Europe, renowned for quality of performance and diversity of repertoire. Co-founded and led by artistic director, William Conway, the Ensemble has been described by the composer Sir Peter Maxwell Davies as ‘one of the great glories of Scotland’.
William Conway was principal cello of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and throughout his career has held the post of principal cello with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, working with many great conductors, including Karajan, Guilini, Maazel, Haitink, Harnoncourt and Abbado. He plays on a cello from 1695 by Giovanni Tononi of Bologna.
Yann Ghiro has been principal clarinet in the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, since 1998, performing frequently as soloist. He is regularly invited as guest principal with other major British orchestras, including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic, Northern Symphonia, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Philharmonia Orchestra.
Philip Moore has performed in North America, Korea, Tunisia, across Europe, and at all of the major UK venues. He has appeared as concerto artist with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, Philharmonia Orchestra, the Hallé, Britten Sinfonia, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. His piano duo with Simon Crawford-Phillips has won international awards.
Their programme for the Stogumber Festival, of works for cello, clarinet and piano, contains music of breath-taking beauty.
