The Fourth Choir will be performing the Vivaldi Gloria with the Meridian Sinfonia. This will be our first concert with a baroque orchestra and, as well as the Vivaldi, we will be performing other renaissance and baroque music by Bach, Palestrina, Schütz, and Tallis.
A highlight will be the UK premiere of 'Apparuit Deus Moysi', a 10 minute long jazzy chant and double choir piece by Antonio Maria Abbatini (1597-1672) which was hidden in the Vatican archives for over 400 years, until the manuscript was discovered by Giuseppe Pecce, one our members, while carrying out research in the Vatican library. Giuseppe laboriously transcribed the music by hand from the original manuscript. The piece has only ever been performed once before in modern times and has never been performed outside Italy.
Another highlight will be the world premiere of our latest commission from Alexander Campkin, 'Thy eyes are sparks', a poignant and daring Epigram by Greek philosopher Strato, which has been written to be paired with Baroque music and uses a baroque orchestra.
Our Artistic Director, Dominic Peckham, is one of the UK's leading choral conductors and works with both professional groups, such as the English National Opera chorus, and educational groups such as the National Youth Choir.
