The Angell Trio has established an international reputation as a leading chamber ensemble and has received much critical acclaim for it "brilliant ensemble playing and wonderfully shared vision and understanding" (Munchner Merkur review of Bavarian Radio concert). The Trio has performed at many major festivals in the UK, broadcast on Radio 3 and made regular appearances in London's concert halls including The Royal Opera House, Kings Place, the South Bank Centre, Blackheath Halls and the Wigmore Hall. They have toured extensively in Europe with performances in leading series in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and many live broadcasts for major stations in Munich Frankfurt and Stuttgart, as well as for Swiss Radio in Basel and Bern, and for NHK-TV in Japan.
Kate Whitley (who replaces on the piano Frances Angell, who is unavailable for this concert) is an exciting young talent and is a 25 year old composer and pianist who has just been given a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Special Award 2014. In 2011, she co-organised a performance by 102 musicians of Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring in a multi-storey car park in Peckham. The event was previewed in The Times, which called it 'the most exciting development in classical music for decades, if not centuries.
Matthew Rose joins the Trio for a second concert in Hartley Wintney. He has previously performed at La Scalla, Milan, Santa fe Opera, The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden to name but a few. He was awarded the John Christie Prize at Glyndebourne, the Independent Opera/Wigmore Hall Fellowship and Critics Circle Award.
