The award-winning British pianist Joseph Tong returns to Oxford with an enticing programme of Fantasias, exploring the development of a form whose roots lie in the art of improvisation. Schubert’s exuberant ‘Wanderer Fantasy’ and Schumann’s celebrated Fantasie of 1836 (the first movement of which was described by Schumann in a letter to his wife as “perhaps the most passionate of all I have ever composed - a deep yearning for you”) feature alongside equally compelling fantasies by Mozart and Chopin.
