Heinrich Schutz was the foremost German composer of the 17th Century. He called the first part of his work 'a concert in the form of a German funeral mass'. The second part is a motet for double choir and the third is a setting of the Song of Simeon.

The programme also includes another work by Schutz as well as pieces by three English composer.
