Since winning the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition in 2012, seventeen-year-old cellist Laura van der Heijden has taken the world of classical music by storm, and forthcoming debuts include appearances with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Philharmonia orchestra.

In this unmissable concert she will join forces with Sinfonia Cymru to bring the searing drama of Shostakovich’s first cello concerto to life in a programme that also features Beethoven’s exuberant eighth symphony and two evocative works originally composed for the theatre stage: Sibelius’s magical suite from Pelléas et Mélisande, and the atmospheric Quiet City by Aaron Copland.
