  1. Judas Maccabaeus HWV 63 - George Frideric Handel

Judas Maccabaeus tells the dramatic story of the Jewish revolt against the tyranny and idolatry of the Seleucid kings in second century BC Palestine. Handel's colourful music aptly matches the ups and downs in the fortunes of the Jewish people, from the depths of despair to the heights of triumph and joy, as judas leads the to victory and freedom. The work contains much fine music, unjustly neglected, and one or two popular favourites which retain their appeal to this day.
