Duchy Opera presents Donizetti's The Elixir of Love

The Elixir of Love (L'Elisir d'amore) by the Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti will be sung in English.

Written in just six weeks in 1832, this greatest of Italian comic operas also has moments of real pathos, notably Nemorino’s much-loved aria Una furtiva lagrima.

The story features Dulcamara, an itinerant ‘quack’ doctor who arrives in town to sell his bottles of elixir, a cure for all ills. Unrequited love and courtship, disappointment and delight, secrecy and proposals - but who marries whom?

Apart from the young professional tenor William Morgan, playing Nemorino, our brilliant cast will be completely 'home-grown'.

We are lucky to have the inspiring direction of Richard Jackson, who has found time in his busy London teaching life to stage this sparkling comedy for Duchy Opera.
