A concert by Oldham Choral Society to mark the outbreak of the First World War

Our first concert of the new season will be a real occasion. In the newly refurbished Concert Hall at the College we will present a very appropriate programme for Remembrance weekend by performing two contrasting works to commemorate the outbreak of the Great War. Howard Goodalls' Eternal Light is an exciting work, composed by someone who has helped to make classical music more accessible and understandable to many though his TV programmes. The work is teamed with the Mass in Time of War by Haydn which couldn't be a greater contract to Goodall, but a very fitting piece for our theme. Also in the programme will be some readings of war poems and a short act of Remembrance, together with other music of the time. All in all a very suitable mix of words and music for a special occasion.
