  1. Messa da Requiem - Giuseppe Verdi

Saint Michael's Singers will be performing the Verdi Requiem three times in November with the York Musical Society Chorus and the Parliament Choir. The performance at Coventry Cathedral is part of the City of Coventry's annual Peace Festival.

Verdi’s Requiem Mass is one of the most famous and best loved settings of the mass for the dead. Glorious melodies contrast dramatically with the exciting and tempestuous writing of the Dies Irae. Although not intended for the stage, the Requiem is unashamedly theatrical in style and has been described as an opera in church vestments! The soloists have some of Verdi’s most lyrical writing. The soprano part in particular has the most challenging very soft high note towards the end of the final movement – a moment every listener always holds in great anticipation.

Join the Singers for the second of this three part series, the first persformance in York Minster was a resounding success!
