  1. Symphony No 8 in B minor, 'Unfinished' D 759 - Franz Schubert
  2. Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No 1 in G minor Op 26 - Max Bruch
  3. Variations on an original theme, 'Enigma' Op 36 - Sir Edward Elgar

Forming the centrepiece of the concert, Max Bruch's Violin Concerto No.1 is one of the most popular in the genre, full of Romantic melodies and exuberant themes. In the hands of Chloë Hanslip, this is sure to be a performance of virtuosity and sensitivity.

Although Schubert intended further movements, his 'Unfinished' two-movement Symphony seems curiously perfect, from the wonderful lyrical Allegro moderato to the heart-breaking Andante con moto.

Providing a fitting ending for tonight's programme is Elgar's best-loved creation: his glorious Enigma Variations include an air of mystic and orchestral flair, reaching great emotional depth in the well-known 'Nimrod' theme.
