Mami Shikimori (piano) - Oxford Proms

Oxford Proms Orchestra is joined by international award-winning pianist Mami Shikimori for a performance of one of Mozart’s best loved masterworks. This concerto acquired "Elivira Madigan" as a popular name after the haunting second movement was played by Geza Anda for the Swedish film Elvira Madigan, a true story of a tragic love affair.
Mami received an ovation for a stunning performance of Beethoven’s “Emperor” concerto in last year’s proms and we are delighted to welcome her again. She will also play Ravel's virtuoso arrangement of "La Valse" for piano solo, to celebrate the release of her new highly acclaimed CD.
For the rest of the programme there is Schubert’s Fifth Symphony, reminiscent of Mozart with a beautiful flow of melody, and a rarely heard romantic masterpiece Rakastava (The Lover) for Strings & Percussion by Jean Sibelius. The programme has great family appeal.

The Oxford Proms Orchestra is conducted by John Traill, hailed one of the most promising conductors of his generation, and is known for his strong interpretative instinct (Guardian, 2008).
