  1. Clarinet Quintet in F sharp minor - Samuel Coleridge-Taylor
  2. Serenade No 10 in B flat, 'Gran Partita', for wind ensemble K 361 - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Clarinettist Anthony McGill collaborates with the Kaleidoscope Chamber Collective and stars of the next generation from Guildhall School, as he closes his Milton Court residency.

Samuel Coleridge-Taylor was considered a genius during his lifetime. When his teacher Stanford claimed that nobody could write a clarinet quintet without being influenced by Brahms, he took on the challenge and succeeded with a work that bursts with invention. Anyone who has seen Peter Shaffer’s Amadeus will recall Salieri waxing lyrical about Mozart’s Gran Partita: ‘Filled with such longing... It seemed to me that I was hearing the voice of God.’

Anthony McGill joins forces with the ever-shifting, flexible chamber ensemble Kaleidoscope Collective, and we hear a fresh take on a beloved work in the latest of our side-by-side projects with musicians from Guildhall School – the last of which was hailed as ‘a tribute to the Guildhall students as learners, as much as to their musicianship’ (Bachtrack).
