It was in March 2014 that Jamie W Hall formally took up the baton as Romsey Choral Society’s new Musical Director to conduct a concert in Winchester’s historic and stunning St. Cross Church. In the 4 years since then BBC Singer Jamie has raised the choir’s performance standards to a new high and the choir is attracting increased attention, a new following and new members.

Although Romsey Choral Society regards Romsey Abbey as its home patch and performs there regularly, the annual spring concert in St Cross Church has remained an annual diary fixture and Jamie uses the opportunity of the remarkable acoustic in St. Cross to showcase multiple pieces of music to feature the choir’s beautiful vocal blend, sensitive treatment of close harmony, and its ability to sing unaccompanied music in the most accomplished way.

This year is no exception, on Sunday 18 March they will perform an eclectic programme entitled ‘Motteten’ of blissful sacred European motets from the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries. Listeners can expect to be transported by the wonderful sounds conceived by composers such as Palestrina, Rossini, Rachmaninov, Brahms, Monteverdi and Bach and many others.
