We crown our 2016/2017 season with a concert featuring music influenced by the 16th century vocal form known as the madrigal: pastoral, intimate, sometimes playful, sometimes serious, speaking of love and loss. The two main works are Lauridsen: Madrigali – Six Fire Songs on Italian renaissance poems, which are full of vivid light and darkest shade, a truly eloquent outpouring, and in complete contrast, Finzi: Seven Poems of Robert Bridges, beautifully crafted part songs full of quintessential English pastoralism.

We are also delighted to include two works by the choir’s new President: Cecilia McDowall and the first performance of Fair is the Rose, by our Guildhall School of Music and Drama Composer in Association Matt Geer.

We welcome our regular rehearsal accompanist Hélène Favre-Bulle in a solo role playing Debussy's atmospheric Estampes.
