Nick Pritchard was a choral scholar at New College, Oxford and studied singing at the Royal College of Music. He has sung leading roles with Opera North, Aldeburgh, English Touring Opera and the Royal Opera House, and has recently performed these two song cycles in recitals throughout the country.

Beethoven's is the first major song cycle to have been written, in 1816, while Schubert's dates from 1823. Both tell movingly of unrequited love and its consequences.
