A morning exploring the relationship between words, language and music, with a focus on German song. With world-famous baritone Roderick Williams, poetry and song specialist Professor Helen Abbott (University of Birmingham) and German literary and cultural history specialist and BBC Radio 3 New Generation Thinker 2016 Dr Séan Williams (University of Sheffield).

The session will focus on:

- The challenges of singing in German and how singers approach languages in performance of song
- The relationship between text and music with a focus on 19th century German poetry
- The session includes students from the University of Sheffield performing in a masterclass in German song, accompanied by Richard Longman (piano)
