The great and wide sea - words and music

Lynne Plowman: The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
a complete reading by Zeb Soanes (BBC Radio) of Coleridge’s 1798 epoch-making work set with twelve brilliant miniatures by Lynne Plowman (2016). The compositions refer to the engravings by David Jones for Douglas Cleverdon’s 1929 edition of the poem. Lynne Plowman won the 2003 British Composers Award and has composed for Welsh National Opera, Glyndebourne Opera, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and the London Mozart Players.

Sally Beamish: Sea Psalm - the sinking of HMS Duchess 12th Dec 1939
a 20-minute setting of the psalm ‘They that go down to the sea in ships’ during which a spoken narration recites the eyewitness account from the only surviving officer of the destroyer HMS Duchess. Sally Beamish is a composer whose work is performed and broadcast internationally. She has composed for the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Scottish Opera, and BBC Proms.

Bosham church is depicted in the Bayeux Tapestry, a work in 'Opus Anglicanum', i.e. English early mediaeval needlework.
