Renaissance Unchained | Yorkshire Bach Choir

Renaissance Unchained: Byrd: Mass for 5 voices, and music by Sweelinck, Lassus, Palestrina and Victoria. Not confined to one central place or composer, vocal music in the Renaissance flourished across Europe in places public and private, grand and intimate. We tour the continent unlocking music from the churches and courts of the Low Countries, to the royal monasteries of Spain and the Papal churches of Rome. Most private of all was William Byrd’s beautiful Mass for 5 voices, secretly performed in the private chapels of devout English Catholics.
