Liverpool Mozart Orchestra's 2016-17 season opens with lush, romantic harmonies from the great operatic genius, Wagner, under the baton of Maxime Tortelier, who Liverpool Mozart Orchestra welcomes back after his sensational debut with the orchestra in May. Wagner penned the Siegfried Idyll as a birthday gift for his wife Cosima. Listen out for the oboe solo, a tender German lullaby. Haydn’s 'Surprise' Symphony was enormously well received at its première in London: it’s a complete contrast to the Wagner – to say more would spoil the great surprise! Then to round off the evening, Schubert’s 9th symphony, the 'Great': arguably his finest (greatest?!) orchestral piece, full of charm, lilting melodies, sonorous harmonies – sit back and have a great time!
