Sir Antonio Pappano is joined by long-term collaborators Ian Bostridge and Dame Sarah Connolly for an evening of intimate chamber versions of song cycles on love, loss, nature and nostalgia. Offering fresh insight into Chausson’s epitome of sophisticated French polish, the first UK performance of Villard’s new chamber arrangement of the beautiful Poeme de l’amour et de la mer is a revealing companion to the original version of Vaughan Williams’s quintessentially English pastoral idyll, On Wenlock Edge. With their dramatic scope and almost operatic intensity, these are perfect choices for Pappano’s hand-picked soloists, accompanied by the sublime Carducci Quartet and Pappano himself at the piano. As part of the stream, the performers will appear in conversation to discuss the themes of the evening's music.
