By turns refined and fierce, delicate and exuberant, Britten’s Saint Nicolas is filled with colour. Originally conceived as a community project, it includes moments of fun, terror, suspense and tenderness.
With its talent for musical storytelling, Crouch End Festival Chorus complements Britten’s Saint Nicolas with Haydn’s vibrant Missa Sancti Nicolai.
Crouch End Festival Chorus also presents three of the best entries from its recent From the heart competition, including a second performance of the winning entry by Ian Lawson. The competition, marking the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, asked composers to set words inscribed by Beethoven at the beginning of his Missa Solemnis manuscript (‘From the heart – may it return to the heart!’).
