Due to the current coronavirus situation, Bristol Choral Society has decided that we must again postpone our concert which was re-scheduled for 30th January 2021. For now, this is a cancellation, and we will post again any future dates and news! We hope to present this beautiful concert soon in Bristol Cathedral, where it will echo high amongst the pillars and vaulted ceiling, to create an evening of pure joy. As Faure himself observed, 'someone called it a lullaby of death'. But he saw death as something which brought ultimate happiness, which this concert aims to deliver. Before the Fauré, there will be a chance to warm up with a Stravinsky wartime sonata for two pianos, and then the glittering Symphony of Psalms by the same composer, with woodwind, brass, pianos and harp accompanying this setting of the psalms. Stravinsky called them 'poems of exaltation'.
We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding at this very difficult time. During 2020 however, the choir has produced a CD on the Delphian Label, with music by Judith Weir, Cecilia McDowall and Bob Chilcott. You can find out more and buy a copy here
