Southampton Concert Orchestra return to Turner Sims with a programme of British and Russian music.
In the first half, music From Malcolm Arnold and William Walton written in the 1950’s. The concert will open with Arnold’s musical depiction of Robert Burn’s epic poem, Tam O’Shanter, before Walton’s stunningly evocative Cello Concerto. We are delighted to welcome back Philip Daish-Handy of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Artistic Director of the Nova Foresta Classical Players, as soloist. The second half concludes with Shostakovich’s First Symphony, written at the age of 19 as his graduation piece from the St Petersburg conservatoire.
