Celebrating the bicentenary of Clara Wieck Schumann’s birth in 1819, pianist Reiko Fujisawa illuminates her life and work through words and music.
With a career spanning more than 60 years and a life marked by tragedy, ClaraSchumann was a leading pianist of her day, the wife of one great composer and the intimate friend of another. A woman of her time, she is now seen as a strikingly independent figure who worked tirelessly against the grain of assumption and prejudice.
Making music was Clara’s life – she called it ‘the very air I breathe’ – and in this concert, Fujisawa, alongside actor Crawford Logan, paints a portrait of the life, work and personal reflections of this iconic artist.
