The Ionian Singers with conductor and pianist Timothy Salter will be joined by cellist Karolina Öhman in a concert of choral and instrumental music ranging from the late 19th century to the present day at All Saints Church, Rosendale Road, on Saturday 12th November at 7.30pm.

The timeless themes of love and death appear in the choral music, with works by Wolf (transcriptions for chorus, cello and piano by Salter of three of his Lieder), Cornelius, Elgar, Parry, Howells’s (his little-known love song Walking in the snow) Debussy’s Trois Chansons and Lutyens’s tender Verses of love.

Timothy Salter’s Phantasma, a set of three pieces for cello and piano akin in spirit if not in language to the ‘fantasy’ pieces of the Romantic period, receives its first performance. Debussy’s Sonate pour violoncelle et piano and Deborah Pritchard’s piece for solo cello, From Night, complete the programme.
