A groundbreaking debut concert to launch the UK's first and only professional woodwind orchestra, the London Woodwind Orchestra. This 18-piece chamber orchestra features some of the UK's finest woodwind players, many of whom are the prinicipal players in leading orchestras, including Susan Milan (flute), Jonathan Small (oboe), Michael Whight (clarinet), Joy Farrall (clarinet), John Orford (bassoon) and Simon Haram (saxophone), and conducted by Shea Lolin.
Immerse yourself in the kaleidoscopic soundworld and deep, rich tones of the woodwind orchestra, a beguiling medium with a highly adaptable and magical tonal palette – it can be, in turn, boldly vibrant and delicately beautiful, thrillingly powerful and hauntingly tender, earnestly solemn and joyously comical.
The concert will showcase a thrilling selection of new and approachable music by British composers, Gary Carpenter, Judith Bingham, Philip Sparke, Adam Gorb and Christopher Hussey. There will be a pre-concert talk with composers led by Paul Harris at 6.30pm.
