Cuban guitar sensation Ahmed Dickinson Cárdenas joins Docklands Sinfonia for a performance of Rodrigo's stunning and much-loved guitar concerto 'Concierto de Aranjuez'.
The concert will get off to an explosive start with Rimsky-Korsakov's fiery Capriccio Espagnol and will finish with Tchaikovsky's passionate final Symphony No 6 'Pathétique'.
Described as “a true pioneer” (Classic FM Magazine), award winning London-based Cuban guitarist Ahmed Dickinson Cardenas is one of the finest performers of the Cuban classical guitar school. A sophisticated virtuoso, Havana-born Dickinson Cárdenas has performed at prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall and has given live performances on BBC Radio 3 and BBC London.
Docklands Sinfonia is young and pioneering orchestra which has become a major cultural force in the Docklands - bringing high quality music to the area, staging ground-breaking concerts and creating a lasting legacy by inspiring generations of young people.
Firmly grounded in its community, the orchestra was founded by conductor Spencer Down, the grandson of a docker, whose love of music was born listening to his grandfather play trumpet in working men’s clubs in the East End.
Since its formation in 2009, Docklands Sinfonia has enjoyed incredible success with performances for the Queen at Buckingham Palace and with Grammy-award winner Imogen Heap at the Royal Albert Hall. It has appeared on the BBC Radio 3 and BBC1.
