Flanders Symphony Orchestra, one of Belgium's most distinguished orchestras, are making their UK debut under their eminent British Music Director, Jan Latham Koenig. Their performance at The Hexagon offers a rare opportunity to hear Ibert's orchestration of Oscar Wilde's Ballad of Reading Gaol. Simon Callow will also narrate Elgar's Carillon, which Elgar was inspired to write, using the words of the Belgian poet Emile Cammaerts, as a sympathetic gesture following the occupation of Belgium in August 1914. The performance will finish with Dvorák's ever popular 9th Symphony, which embraces both the old world and the new.
