In this third concert of the Northern Lights series the CSO - Cheltenham's symphony orchestra - bring you one of Sibelius's greatest works, the Fifth Symphony. Words cannot adequately describe the scope and sweep of this amazing piece, it just has to be experienced.

But first the orchestra is joined by Katherine Bryan, principal flute of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (a post to which she was appointed at the age of 21). Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra are very excited to be performing with this, one of Britain's foremost musicians.

The programme opens with another Nielsen work, the Helios overture. For a moment we are conducted away from the vast, icy spaces of Scandanavia to experience a sunrise over the warm Aegean sea.

This concert is sure to be a majestic climax to this series of the music of Nordic composers and is certain to demonstrate the vast range of talent that now comprises the Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra.
