Lambeth Wind Orchestra, under their conductor, John Holland, return to St. Paul's Church, Herne Hill. They will present an unusual and engaging concert featuring a number of items that show off the brass section and a special musical tribute to the architect of modern brass instruments, Adolphe Sax, with a newly-composed work by Roger Cawkwell for saxophone quartet and band.
Along the way, there will be a host of fabulous pieces for band from British composers Philip Sparke and Goff Richards, along with the glorious, but seldom-heard in the UK 'Symphony for Band' by the American composer Morton Gould.
This concert also marks the start of a four-year project to commemorate the Great War Centenary with the band's 'Epilogue Series' - instead of an encore, a piece will be played by a composer who served in the Great War, appropriate to the time, if possible, 100 years ago.
The chosen charity for this concert is St. Michael's Fellowship, a charity that supports and helps disadvantaged families in Lambeth and Southwark.
