  1. Overture, from König Stefan, 'King Stephen' Op 117 - Ludwig van Beethoven
  2. Variations on a theme by Haydn, 'St Anthony Chorale' Op 56a - Johannes Brahms
  3. Concierto de Aranjuez - Joaquin Rodrigo
  4. Symphony No 7 in A Op 92 - Ludwig van Beethoven

This concert contains two works by Beethoven, the King Stephen Overture, a brilliantly orchestrated festival piece with a dramatic coda and the great 7th Symphony, which was one of the composer’s most popular works from its first performance. The four movements have a joyous energy and rhythmic impetus which generates enormous power.

Brahms’s genial and inventive variations on the St Anthony Chorale pre-dates by three years his immense First Symphony which we will perform in our March 2014 concert.

The Rodrigo Guitar Concert is renowned for its hauntingly beautiful adagio and its spirited outer movements and to play this most popular of all concerto’s is the young Tom McClauchlan who has performed at Cardiff’s Millennium Centre and Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall.
