Period instrument ensemble, Horologe, present songs and cantatas by three generations of English composers: William Lawes, a much-beloved musician to Charles I, who lost his life in the English Civil War; Daniel Purcell, brother of the more famous Henry, whose songs and cantatas display a whimsical glance forward to the fashions of the eightennth century; and William Hayes, a contemporary of Handel, whose music displays the English high baroque at its most sumptuous. Above are a few items in the concert. The cantatas are being dramatised/staged (directed by opera singer/director Jenny Miller).
