  1. A Song before sunrise - Frederick Delius
  2. Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in A minor Op 54 - Robert Schumann
  3. Symphony No 4 in E minor Op 98 - Johannes Brahms

In the third of their 2013 Pump Room Concert series the Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra return to perhaps the greatest of the symphonies of Johannes Brahms. By this point in his composing life Brahms had left behind the legacy of Beethoven and become confident in the unique voice that he had been developing. The Fourth Symphony is a challenge to any orchestra, amateur or professional, but now David Curtis and the CSO are ready to tackle this masterpiece.

Alex Wilson was a violinist in the CSO in his earlier years but has since left us to graduate in piano from the Royal College of Music, now beginning to carve out a professional career. It will be a delight to perform the Schumann concerto with him, one of the best-loved of all piano concertos.

And the concert starts with a short but exquisite piece by Delius. Shut your eyes and dream of the early dawn, deep á la campagne, without doubt an interlude of tranquillity.
