  1. The Hebrides, 'Fingal's Cave' Op 26 - Felix Mendelssohn
  2. Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No 5 in E flat, 'Emperor' Op 73 - Ludwig van Beethoven
  3. Symphony No 4 in G - Gustav Mahler

After Mendelssohn's superb musical picture of the sea around Fingal's Cave, Beethoven's last piano concerto is his most brilliant and powerful, set in the 'heroic' key of E flat. It is so majestic and so symphonic in breadth that it has earned the nickname 'Emperor', and to play this great work we welcome the young English pianist Sam Armstrong. He has been a top prize winner in national and international competitions and has performed across Europe, Asia, and the Americas as recitalist and orchestral soloist.

Of the young soprano Kirsty Hopkins a critic on BBC Radio 3 said ''with exquisite ease she seems to take us up to heaven and back.'' She joins the orchestra in the child's-eye vision of heaven that closes Mahler's radiant Fourth Symphony.
