Martin Roscoe gives us two of the great piano sonatas, interspersed with Schumann's delightful reminiscences of childhood, the energy of Dohnanyi's Rhapsody in C and beginning (as we end) in B minor with Haydn. Beethoven's Sonata is often given the name of its dedicatee - but in Italy is known as 'The Dawn' for the opening of the third movement, and Liszt's B minor is dedicated to Schumann, with its almost sinister opening, quiet end and an enormous musical architecture in between.
