His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts mark the 400th anniversary of Giovanni Gabrieli’s death by presenting a cross section of his output, ranging from earlier small-scale madrigals through to posthumously published canzonas for double choir. The ensemble traces Gabrieli’s development via the music of his family, teachers, colleagues, associates and students. These key figures spread Gabrieli’s compositional style and approach throughoutEurope, shaping the development of instrumental music. Works by Andrea Gabrieli, Orlande de Lassus, Giovanni Bassano, Heinrich Schütz and, of course, Giovanni Gabrieli will be performed.
