The YGO commences its 33rd season with a concert of music relating in some way or other to the city of York - in recognition of York's 800 year old Royal Cherter. Lynne Dawson, the orchestra's president will be taking the stage to sing excerpts from operas by Mozart, Puccini and Gounod and Simon Wright's son, Nick (currently vice principal of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra) will be the soloist in the gloriously evocative Sibelius violin concerto. Local composers Dick Blackford and John Barry will have pieces performed - Dick's piece is a special commission for the orchestra and the concert. By way of Wagner’s overture to the Flying Dutchman, we end up in New York with Bernstein's evocation of life in the city with his Symphonic Dances from West Side Story. This will be a rousing finale to this family friendly concert.
